HÀ NỘI — As many as 14,079 cases of dengue fever and three deaths have been reported this year across the country, according to the latest report of the Ministry of Health.
The figure represents a drop of 37.2 per cent compared to the same period last year. The deaths were recorded in the southern provinces of Bình Dương and Bình Phước and the Mekong Delta province of Cà Mau.
Last week, 24 localities reported zero cases of dengue fever, while the number of infections fell or remained the same compared to the previous week. Only Bình Dương province reported an increase of six cases during the reviewed period.
The ministry’s Department of Preventive Medicine predicted that the disease may turn into something more complex in future if preventive measures were not taken drastically.
Việt Nam witnessed a boom in dengue fever in 2017, when 181,054 cases of infection and 30 deaths were reported in almost all localities, mostly in Hà Nội and HCM City.
