HÀ NỘI — The 10th Xuân Hồng (Pink Spring) blood donation festival will take place at the National Convention Centre in Hà Nội on Saturday.

Organised by the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT) and the Hà Nội Steering Committee for Voluntarily Blood Donation Mobilisation, the annual event aims to collect at least 8,000 units of blood from 30,000 participants, mainly the youth and students.

“The year’s largest blood donation festival aims to provide blood for emergency and treatment demand of more than 170 hospitals in the north,” NIHBT director Prof. Nguyễn Anh Trí said.

“Over the past nine years, the event has collected nearly 51,000 blood units, helping in easing blood donor shortage following the Tết (Lunar New Year) period and strengthening community awareness on voluntarily blood donation,” Trí said.

As part of the event, more than 600 doctors and health workers from 20 hospitals in the capital city will parade along the main streets of Hà Nội, encouraging the community to donate blood and to strengthen medical staff’s responsibility towards patients who need blood transfusion. — VNS
