370,000 cases of traffic violations discovered

More than 370,000 cases of traffic violations have been discovered and fined for one month nationwide, the online newspaper Vietnamplus reported.

HÀ NỘI — More than 370,000 cases of traffic violations have been discovered and fined for one month nationwide, the online newspaper Vietnamplus reported.

The fines amounted to a total of VNĐ227.2 billion (US$10 million). Some 2.300 cars, more than 47,000 motorbikes and hundreds of other vehicles that violated traffic laws were seized.

The police confiscated 32,500 driving licences.

The violations were related to speeding, driving on the wrong lane, parking in the wrong place, driving under the influence of alcohol and carrying overloaded and oversized goods.

Along with traffic violations, the traffic police cooperated with other relevant bodies to unearth more than 200 criminal cases and arrested 250 criminals, including drug dealers, robbers, thieves and illegal weapon holders. The police seized 10kg of opium, more than 1kg of heroin, 1,500 pills of MethyleneDioxyl-MethamphetAmine and an AK gun, as well as bullets and 550kg of firecrackers.

Besides this, the traffic police also discovered 290 cases involving transportation of illegally imported goods, more than three tonnes of foods without original and safety certificates and nearly 1,200 cigarette packs.
