BẮC KẠN — According to the Fire Prevention and Rescue Department of Bắc Kạn Province, by 2.05am on Tuesday, the body of the last victim trapped in the cave-in accident on June 30 had been brought out.

The victim was identified as M.V.T. (resident of Thuần Mang Commune, Ngân Sơn District, Bắc Kạn Province).

Since the entire area of the incident was covered by large rocks, the rescue team decided to approach the victim from above the cave entrance. At the previous rescue site, the team used specialised rock-breaking equipment to create a path about two metres deep, reaching M.V.T.'s position.

Despite the efforts of the rescue forces to search and stabilise the area to limit the risk of rockslides, the victim had already died before the rescue team could reach his location. The victim's body was handed over to the family for funeral arrangements by the local authorities.

Earlier as reported by the VNA, at around 5.30pm on June 30, a cave-in, suspected to be an illegal gold mining, occurred in Liên Kết Hamlet (Hiệp Lực Commune, Ngân Sơn District, Bắc Kạn province). The incident resulted in M.V.T. and Triệu Văn Xuân being trapped inside; and injured B.T.L., whose arm was broken and was taken to Bắc Kạn General Hospital for emergency treatment.

By 11.30pm on June 30, the authorities successfully rescued Triệu Văn Xuân, while M.V.T.'s position was still undetermined. — VNS
