HÀ NỘI — Two people died and eight were injured on Sunday evening when a fixed-route crashed into a parked truck on the highway.
The accident occurred at 7:40pm at the Km58 on the Cam Lộ - La Sơn Highway, involving a bus (plate number: 51B-261.49), driven by Lê Hoàng Quân, carrying passengers from Quảng Trị to Đà Nẵng and a truck (75C-016.91), driven by Phan Đình Thành, which was parked on the side of the highway.
The collision left two dead, Cụt Văn S (born in 2004) and Cụt Thị Ư (born in 2007), and eight injured.
When Deputy Chairman of the People's Committee of Thừa Thiên-Huế Province Hoàng Hải Minh was reported of the crash, he wasted no time in arriving at the scene to oversee the rescue efforts and offer support to the victims.
The Deputy Chairman urged relevant agencies to investigate the crash, organise a clear-up of the scene, and return the deceased victims' bodies to their families.
He also visited the eight injured passengers at the Huế Central Hospital. Non-injured ones were taken to a safe place to rest before boarding another bus to continue their trips.
The provincial Traffic Safety Committee supported the deceased's families with VNĐ5 million (US$203) each.
The crash follows another fatal accident on February 18, 2024, on the same highway, which resulted in three deaths. — VNS
