University of Economics HCM City becomes multi-disciplinary university

HCM CITY — The University of Economics HCM City (UEH) has become one of seven higher education institutions in Việt Nam operating in accordance with the model of “Multi-major and multi-field university” at the direction of the Prime Minister.

A ceremony was organised on November 18 to announce the Prime Minister’s decision that was signed on October 4 to transfer the University of Economics HCM City (UEH) into UEH University.

At the ceremony, the Ministry of Education and Training announced Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Đông Phong as chairman of UEH University Council and Prof. Dr. Sử Đình Thành as director of UEH University.

Three deputy directors include PhD Bùi Quang Hùng, Assoc. Prof. Nguyễn Khắc Quốc Bảo and PhD Đinh Công Khải.

UEH University operates in accordance with a three-level governance model: the university, the member colleges/divisions of the university, and faculties/institutes/units of the colleges/divisions.

With this new management model, the university focuses on developing multi-disciplinary and multi-field knowledge based on the inherent resources and building a smooth resource sharing mechanism among member colleges/divisions in UEH.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. PhD Nguyễn Đông Phong, chairman of UEH University Council, said that since 2021, UEH has implemented an internal restructuring strategy towards becoming a multidisciplinary and sustainable university.

“UEH has been ready to continue pioneering in education and research in all fields, contributing to the sustainable development of the society and the community,” Phong said.

“Together, all of us will complete the mission and vision regarding becoming a multidisciplinary university with academic reputation and sustainability in Asia by 2030,” he said.

UEH is the first higher education institution in Việt Nam to meet European training quality standards with 17 training programmes meeting the international standards FIBAA and AUN-QA. — VNS
