KHÁNH HÒA — Naval Region 4 Command in Khánh Hòa wants to make the Trường Sa Island District strong, healthy, and an example of national solidarity, reported Vietnamplus.vn.

The command is prioritising planting trees to improve living conditions for soldiers and create new environments to boost training effectiveness.

So far this year, under the "Greening Trường Sa" programme, the command has received over 204,200 seedlings and 120.5 tonnes of fertiliser from organisations and individuals across the country.

The command also established two nurseries, covering a total area of about 3,000sq.m to plant the seedlings.

It has carefully studied the soil and climate before planting the seedlings in the island.

About 6,675 trees have been planted on the island district; including 400 for shade, which were planted in canvas bags.

Senior Colonel Phạm Anh Tuấn, Chief of Staff of Naval Region 4 High Command, said that greening the island district has great significance.

It contributes to building a green, clean and beautiful environment on the island district, he said.

During his visit to the command last Thursday, Secretary of the Khánh Hòa Province's Party Committee Nguyễn Hải Ninh highly appreciated the command’s implementation of the greening programme.

He also added that this is an effective policy to help build the island district as an economic, cultural and social hub on the sea, a solid fortress protecting the sovereignty of the islands of the fatherland.

He also encouraged officers and soldiers to make an effort to implement the "All for a beloved Trường Sa" programme.

On Monday morning, Rear Admiral Ngô Văn Thuân, Political Commissar of the command said he assigned officers and soldiers to implement the greening programme, and that it is a small but key part of policy on the island.

“Each officer and soldier must take responsible for bringing trees from the mainland to the island safely,” he said.

They must be enthusiastic and determined to take care of and protect trees on the island district, he said.

The command is looking forward to continuing to receive the cooperation and contributions of organisations and individuals nationwide and overseas Vietnamese to green the island district. — VNS
