HCM CITY — Việt Nam’s first monkeypox case tested negative for the virus on Tuesday after 12 days of treatment, according to the HCM City Hospital for Tropical Diseases.
The patient, a 35-year-old woman who return from Dubai, is no longer suffering from fever, while the blisters on the face, hands and feet have dried up, peeled off and new skin is forming, according to the doctors treating her.
The sores in the patient's throat have also healed, and she is not suffering any more pain. She is eating well, gaining weight and is in an optimistic mood.
On September 23, the medical surveillance system HCM City reported a suspected case of monkeypox in a 35-year-old female patient returning from Dubai.
On September 25, both PCR tests performed at the HCM City Hospital for Tropical Diseases and the Pasteur Institute in HCM City returned positive results for monkeypox, and the patient was immediately transferred to the tropical diseases hospital for further isolation and treatment according to the guidance of the Ministry of Health.
A biological sample was also taken for genetic sequencing, which indicated she was infected with the monkeypox virus strain of clade IIb.
Health authorities noted that the case is unlikely to spread into the community. — VNS
