HÀ NỘI – A fugitive currently wanted in the United States by the FBI for methamphetamine distribution was returned to the United States on November 16, 2021, following months of cooperation between US and Vietnamese government agencies. 

The 38-year-old fugitive, Tyler Pham, is a Vietnamese citizen who had previously evaded U.S. authorities and travelled to Việt Nam to escape prosecution. As a result of the longstanding cooperation on police investigations between the U.S. Mission to Việt Nam and the Ministry of Public Security, Pham was successfully located and returned to the United States to face prosecution for his crimes. 

Pham’s case is one example of how close coordination between law enforcement offices of the U.S. Mission to Việt Nam and the Ministry of Public Security is thwarting transnational narcotics organisations who value profit over human life, with devastating consequences. The United States applauds the Ministry of Public Security for its assistance with this case and looks forward to future cooperation on fugitive and other law enforcement matters. 

Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) special agents at the U.S. Consulate General in Hồ Chí Minh City, the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi, and in Washington D.C., along with the U.S. Marshals Service, the FBI, and the Office of Investigation Police Agency and the Department of Immigration under Việt Nam’s Ministry of Public Security, were all instrumental in the return of Pham.
