HẢI PHÒNG — Chairman of the 14th National Assembly (NA) Vương Đình Huệ and four other candidates for Hải Phòng City’s Constituency No 3 in the upcoming election for the 15th NA met with voters in Dương Kinh District in the northern port city on Tuesday.
They also met with voters in Vĩnh Bảo and An Lão districts on Sunday and voters in Kiến An and Tiên Lãng districts on Monday. The five districts make up the city’s Constituency No 3.
After representatives of the municipal Việt Nam Fatherland Front Committee gave a brief introduction of the candidates’ biographies, the candidates presented their programmes of actions to be implemented if elected.
Huệ said if elected, as an NA deputy of Hải Phòng, he will keep close contact with local voters to learn about their wishes, reflect their opinions to the parliament and State agencies, and deal with citizens’ complaints, denunciations, and petitions in a timely and effective manner.
He and the other candidates promised to work to push reforms to improve the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of the legislature’s activities, and promote democracy, proactiveness, creativity, and transparency, thus ensuring the NA is truly the supreme representative organ of the people and the supreme organ of State power in Việt Nam.
They vowed to keep a close watch on the socio-economic situation of Hải Phòng, as well as of the districts they represent, work with authorities of the city, and propose solutions to carry out the Politburo’s Resolution No 45-NQ/TW, issued on January 24, 2019, on the development of the city by 2030 with a vision to 2045, along with the resolution of the 16th municipal Party Congress for the 2020-2025 tenure.
Voters in Dương Kinh District said they expected the NA and Government to provide more support to people and enterprises to overcome the difficulties of the COVID-19 pandemic.
They also asked for tailored policies for the city, investments for urban development and new style rurals areas as well as further actions to tackle environmental issues or land use and management.
Huệ asked Hải Phòng authorities to propose solutions to the NA and Government for the issues that voters are concerned about.
“I will support mechanisms and policies that could boost the city’s socio-economic development,” Huệ said, adding that he would also called for support for such mechanisms/policies on the NA agenda.
Among five centrally-run cities, Hải Phòng and Cần Thơ have not been given special mechanisms for socio-economic development while Hà Nội, HCM City and Đà Nẵng were given special mechanisms.
The elections of deputies to the 15th NA and People’s Councils for the 2021-2026 tenure are slated for May 23.
Under regulations, candidates for election to the National Assembly can hold at least 10 meetings with voters while candidates for the city’s People’s Council can hold at least five. Through these forums, candidates gain more experience to complete their action programmes and voters can feel more confident in voting for those who deserve to be representatives of the people. —VNS
