HÀ NỘI — Deputy Prime Minister Vương Đình Huệ on Friday was appointed as Secretary of the Hà Nội Party Committee by the Politburo.
On behalf of the Politburo, Phạm Minh Chính, head of the Central Organising Committee, announced the decision and assigned Deputy PM Huệ, who is also a member of the Politburo and the Party Personnel Committee, to join the committee.
Now Huệ will hold the position of Secretary of the Hà Nội Party Committee for the term of 2015-20.
Huệ, 63, was born in Nghi Xuân Commune, Nghi Lộc District in the central province of Nghệ An. He has PhD in economics and worked as a researcher at the University of Economics in Bratislava, the Republic of Slovakia.
He used to be a lecturer, deputy head and then head of the Accounting Faculty, and then deputy principal of the Hà Nội University of Finance and Accounting.
After that he was appointed as deputy general auditor, and then State general auditor.
At the first session of the 13th National Assembly, he was approved as Minister of Finance. Since December 2012, he was assigned to hold the position of Head of the Central Economic Committee.
Since April 2016, he has been a member of the Politburo, a member of the Government Personnel Committee, Deputy Prime Minister and head of the Southwest Steering Committee.
He is a member of the 13th and 14th National Assembly, and a member of the 10th, 11th and 12th Central Party Committee. — VNS
