HÀ NỘI — National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân met with Indian President Ram Nath Kovind on November 20 to mark the latter’s state visit to Việt Nam from November 18-20.

Ngân shared her memories of the Indian landscape and people from her two official visits, as the top legislator in December 2016 and as the NA Vice Chairwoman in February 2013.

She said the President agreeing to speak at the 14th NA’s sixth session was significant, demonstrating the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership entering a new phase in its development.

The top legislator stressed that the participation of nearly 500 deputies, including various leaders from ministries and sectors as well as 63 provinces and cities, at this important event shows the respect the Vietnamese Party, State and especially the NA have paid to India.

President Kovind affirmed India attaches great importance to its time-honoured friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership with Việt Nam. He thanked the legislature for inviting him to speak in front of the NA deputies during the event.

He expressed his belief that the event, as well as Chairwoman Ngân’s visit in 2016 and a recent exchange of the two countries’ parliamentary delegations, would help tighten relations between the two legislative bodies. — VNS
