PARIS — Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng has urged Việt Nam and France to bring their co-operation, especially in trade and investment, on par with their political ties.

Speaking with President of France’s National Assembly, Francois De Rugy, in Paris yesterday, Trọng also expressed his wish that the two countries promote co-operation in culture, education and training, which are potential fields for co-operation between the two.

The Party leader thanked the French National Assembly for sharing experience in legislative work, monitoring and supporting human resources training. He expressed his wish that the French National Assembly continue to work with Việt Nam, especially in the context that Việt Nam is tweaking its legal system and enhancing the role of the National Assembly and elected bodies.

Rugy expressed his admiration of Việt Nam’s development achievements and the country’s emerging position in the region and the world.

Hailing the 45 years of diplomatic relations between France and Việt Nam, the French legislator said that the visit of Trọng would contribute to the co-operation between the two countries to make it match their five-year-old strategic partnership framework.

The two leaders lauded the co-operation in the past years between the national assemblies of France and Việt Nam. They agreed that the two countries’ parliamentary bodies should continue to increase the exchange of delegations in order to learn from each other.

Trọng suggested the French National Assembly support and ratify the Việt Nam-EU free trade agreement.

On this occasion, Trọng invited Rugy to visit Viet Nam on behalf of Vietnamese National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân, an invitation he welcomed.— VNS
