HÀ NỘI – Viet Nam always treasures and accords top priority to preserving and developing its special solidarity with Laos, President Trần Đại Quang said yesterday.

He was speaking at a reception held in the capital city for visiting Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith.

The President also affirmed Việt Nam’s whole-hearted support for the causes of national reform, defence and construction of Laos.

Praising the Lao leader’s visit, he said it would further promote and deepen the Việt Nam-Laos special solidarity, especially when the two countries are celebrating the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties and 40th anniversary of the Việt Nam-Laos Treaty of Amity and Co-operation.

The State leader congratulated Laos on important achievements in both domestic and foreign affairs, expressing his belief that under the leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and State, the Lao people will continue building Laos into a more prosperous nation.

President Quang congratulated the Lao PM on his being bestowed the Gold Star Order, the highest decoration of the Vietnamese State.

He proposed that leaders of both countries continue working closely in organising practical celebrations of bilateral landmarks 2017. He also took the occasion to invite Lao Party General Secretary and President Bounnhang Vorachith to visit Viet Nam and attend a ceremony to conclude the Việt Nam-Laos, Laos Viet Nam Friendship Year.

Quang also said that as the host of the APEC 2017, Viet Nam invites Vorachith to attend the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in Đà Nẵng in November along with the leaders of Cambodia and Myanmar.

PM Sisoulith said Lao Party General Secretary and President Vorachith would visit Việt Nam in December to attend the ceremony concluding the Việt Nam-Laos, Laos-Việt Nam Friendship Year 2017 and participate in the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in November.

The Lao PM briefed the President on major activities held in Laos this year to celebrate the landmarks in bilateral relations.

Although Laos was not a member of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum, the country would try its best to contribute to the success of the APEC Year 2017 when it participates for the first time as a guest economy, he said.-VNS
