President calls for stronger Timor Leste relations

HÀ NỘI — President Trần Đại Quang has called for stronger co-operation between Việt Nam and Timor Leste in all fields, especially the economy, trade and investment. 

Meeting with Timor Leste’s outgoing Ambassador to Việt Nam Jorge Trindade Neves De Camoes in Hà Nội yesterday, the President affirmed Việt Nam always attaches importance to boosting relations with Timor Leste within bilateral and multilateral co-operation frameworks. 

Highlighting the great potential for the two nations to bolster relations, Quang said they should maintain the exchange of  visits at all levels and promote people-to-people exchanges, strengthening mutual understanding and trust. 

He asked Timor Leste to complete internal procedures towards having the bilateral trade agreement signed in 2013 to take effect as soon as possible. 

The President also called on Timor Leste to continue creating favourable conditions for the Viettel Group to operate effectively.

Jorge Trindade Neves De Camoes thanked the Vietnamese State for its support for Timor Leste in recent years, and expressed his hope that Việt Nam would back Timor Leste’s bid for membership of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). 

Timor Leste also hopes for more effective coordination between the two countries in the coming time towards creating new impetus for bilateral co-operation, he said. 

The diplomat affirmed that his country’s policy to promote people-to-people exchanges with Việt Nam and encourage Vietnamese enterprises to invest in the country, especially in telecommunications.

He conveyed to Presdent Quang an invitation to visit Timor Leste from President Taur Matan Ruak. President Quang accepted the inviation with pleasure. — VNS
