PHNOM PENH -- Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on Friday afternoon hosted an official welcome ceremony for Vietnamese counterpart Lê Minh Hưng in Phnom Penh, who is on his first official visit to the neighbouring country.
After the two countries' national anthems were played, the two leaders reviewed the guard of honour of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and introduced the members of their delegations before proceeding to official talks. The talks are expected to focus on concrete measures to implement high-level agreements and commitments more effectively, add momentum to bilateral cooperation and contribute to peace, stability and development in the region.
Political trust between Việt Nam and Cambodia has continued to deepen through regular high-level exchanges, while defence and security cooperation has helped maintain security and build a peaceful and friendly shared border. Trade, investment and tourism remain key drivers of bilateral relations. Two-way trade reached US$11.33 billion in 2025, up 11.7 per cent year-on-year. Việt Nam has 223 investment projects in Cambodia with total registered capital of nearly $3.4 billion, making it the second-largest destination for Vietnamese overseas investment.
The two countries have also stepped up cooperation in education, culture and people-to-people exchanges, particularly among the younger generations.
Earlier on Friday, PM Hưng and his Lao counterpart Saleumxay Kommasith visited the Laos–Việt Nam Friendship Park in Vientiane. The two leaders laid flowers at the monument to President Hồ Chí Minh and Lao leaders Kaysone Phomvihane and Souphanouvong, and planted commemorative trees in the park.
At the monument, representatives of the two countries reaffirmed their commitment to preserving and strengthening the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and strategic cohesion between Việt Nam and Laos. The two countries share a long-standing relationship forged in their struggles for national liberation and strengthened through decades of cooperation in national construction and development. — VNS
