HÀ NỘI — Upon hearing the news on the passing away of Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng, National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn expressed his boundless grief and shared his sentiments and thoughts on the leader.

The top legislator, who is also a Politburo member, called the deceased a great personality, wit, talent, and erudition rich in reality.

The 80-year-old, with 57 years in the Party, devoted the whole of his life to the fine ideology of the Party and served as a bright example of the revolutionary virtue of a communist, Mẫn said, adding he also devoted the whole of his life to the ideology of national independence and socialism, for the happiness of the people.

Shouldering the heavy responsibility of the top leader of the Party and many other important positions in the Party and the State, including that of the National Assembly Chairman for the 11th and 12th tenures, he remained closely bonded to the legislature, the NA leader said.

To NA deputies, the Party leader often reminded them that they, in whatever working position, should fully sense the rights and responsibilities of the representatives of the people; maintain regular contacts with the voters; listen to and reflect ideas from the voters; go under the supervision of the voters; and stay close to the voters so as to well accomplish the tasks entrusted by the voters and people.

This once again showed the carefulness, modesty and progressive spirit of a true communist when assigned especially important tasks, the NA leader said. — VNS
