HÀ NỘI — The National Assembly (NA) passed the revised Capital Law on Friday morning during its seventh session, with 462 out of 470 participating deputies voting in favour.

The revised law, which will take effect from January 1 next year, consists of seven chapters with 54 articles, clearly defining the position and role of the capital city and policies and responsibilities for construction, development, management and protection of Hà Nội.

Prior to the voting, the NA listened to a report on revisions made to the draft Capital Law based on the outcomes of debates at the NA, presented by the head of the NA's Committee on Legal Affairs Hoàng Thanh Tùng.

Tùng emphasised that the Capital Law only regulates specially-designed mechanisms and policies for Hà Nội, so beyond this the capital is still subject to pre-existing legal rulings and documents.

The NA Standing Committee took note of the justified and responsible opinions of NA deputies to continue directing the review, amendment and supplementation of related laws, decrees and resolutions towards perfecting the legal system in the future, he added. — VNS
