HCM CITY — Percussionist Trần Xuân Hòa of Hà Nội will stage a solo performance at the Ngôi Nhà Áo Dài Điểm Một Thời (House of Áo Dài - Once Famous Point) on Friday featuring Vietnamese folk music and other genres.

The show, titled Mưa Nhiệt Đới (Tropical Rain), will feature Hòa playing dozens of traditional and modern musical instruments, including instruments he has made from objects like canes, pots and hammers.

“I’ve had seven shows in Hà Nội. This time, I hope my music will win over the hearts of Saigonese,” said Hòa, who has more than 20 years of experience in the industry.

Hòa performed in the quartet Go Group, which plays with 100 percussion instruments including the marimba, xylophone, vibraphone, campana, gran casa and timpani.

As a member of the ASEAN Symphony Orchestra, he has toured 10 countries in the region and worked with Japanee conductor Yoshi Fukumura.

His show, Mưa Nhiệt Đới, begins at 7pm Friday night at 77 Nguyễn Huệ Street in District 1. — VNS
