HCM CITY – A play depicting family problems, written by Nguyễn Thị Minh Ngọc, one of Việt Nam’s leading female scriptwriters, will be presented in California next weekend.
The comedy Tía Ơi Má Dìa ( Daddy! Mom Comes Back) will be staged by 20 actors of the HCM City-based private IDECAF Troupe in a Sài Gòn style that Vietnamese-American fans find attractive.
It is directed by Vũ Minh, a well-known young theatre director who works for several troupes and theatres in the city.
Minh said he and his staff had worked hard to incorporate simple and humorous language to meet the tastes of their audiences in California.
The play will feature famous actors Thành Lộc, Hữu Châu and Phương Dung.
Young and promising talents, such as Trương Nam Thành and Don Nguyễn, will also be featured.
"Each of our talented actors is a star in the making. They bring an energy and passion to their performances. I hope their show will bring a new taste to Vietnamese audiences, particularly young people, in the US,” said the play’s director Minh, who arrived California yesterday to prepare for staging.
According to Minh, Tía Ơi Má Dìa involves the loss of traditional values related to family and love in modern society as Việt Nam integrates into the world. “The play’s theme is intensely human and relevant for any time and culture,” he said.
The play will be staged twice on Sunday, November 27, at the Saigon Performing Arts Centre in Orange Country.
