French musicians to play in City

A concert featuring the works of Haydn and Mozart will be held by the HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) at the Opera House on November 9.

HCM CITY — A concert featuring the works of Haydn and Mozart will be held by the HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) at the the city’s Opera House on November 9.

The concert will open with Mozart’s String Quartet No 3 in G Major and String Divertimento in D Major. It will also include Haydn’s String Quartet No 2 in D Minor and Cello Concerto No 1 in C Major.

Musicians from the Orchestre National de France (French National Symphony Orchestra), including cellist Emma Savouret and violinist Nguyễn Hữu Nguyên, will be featured.

Savouret began studying music with French cellist Michel Strauss at the Boulogne Billancourt National Conservatory of Music, and then studied cello and chamber music at the Paris Conservatory and the Freiburg University of Music.

She has been a guest artist in major festivals in France and Europe, and has performed as soloist with many prestigious orchestras in France, including the National Orchestra of the Capitole in Toulouse and the Orsay Choir and Symphonic Orchestra.

Savouret, who joined the French National Symphony Orchestra in 2002, uses a special cello, made in 1866, from Nicolas-François Vuillaume.

Nguyên joined the HCM City Conservatory of Music at aged 14, and three years later won first prize in the Việt Nam Concours Autumn, a national contest which recognises outstanding young Vietnamese musicians.

He was later admitted to the Paris Conservatory, and then won top prizes at competitions in France.

After completing his master’s degree in chamber music, Nguyên joined the French National Symphony Orchestra in 1999, and was named the third violin soloist in 2003.

Savouret and Nguyên will perform with the HBSO Chamber Orchestra.

The concert begins at 8pm at 7 Lam Sơn Square in District 1. Tickets are available at the venue’s box office. — VNS
