Taxes paid by foreign suppliers exceed annual estimate

HÀ NỘI — The total tax paid by foreign suppliers to Việt Nam reached VNĐ6.23 trillion (nearly US$258 million) in the first eight months of this year, exceeding the annual estimate.

The total tax is 124 per cent compared to the same period last year, and 125 per cent of this year's estimate.

This figure shows that estimated revenues from foreign suppliers paid via the General Department of Taxation (GDT)'s e-commerce portal are four months ahead of schedule.

Up to 106 foreign suppliers including Google, Facebook, Apple, Netflix, Microsoft and TikTok have registered and been granted tax codes through the e-commerce portal so far.

The electronic information portal for foreign suppliers was put into operation from the end of March 2022, the GDT stated.

Since then, major foreign suppliers have registered, declared and paid taxes reaching over VNĐ16.8 trillion directly to Việt Nam through this portal.

Meanwhile, the total accumulated state budget revenue managed by the tax authority is estimated at VNĐ1.14 quadrillion.

Of this, revenue from crude oil is estimated at VNĐ39.36 trillion, while other domestic revenue is estimated at VNĐ1.1 quadrillion.

As for electronic tax registration and payment services via the Etax Mobile application for individuals and business households, the GDT reported that there have been 1,276,580 downloads, installations and uses of the app after more than two years of implementation.

More than 2.3 million transactions have been made via commercial banks, with VNĐ5.15 trillion successfully paid. — VNS
