HCM CITY — The trend of increasing trade connections has promoted demand for goods transport, especially cross-border goods. With advantages in terms of transport capacity, cost and convenience, semi-trailers have become one of the most popular means of goods transport.

Grasping that need, THACO INDUSTRIES has invested in research and production of semi-trailers under the Thaco Trailers brand, gradually reaching out to global markets.

Semi-trailers under the Thaco Trailers brand – a strategic step forward

Based on its foundation of industrial production in the field of mechanical engineering and supporting industry, while exploiting opportunities in the semi-trailers market, since 2014, THACO INDUSTRIES has invested in the research and production of semi-trailers, supplying both domestic and export markets.

To meet the increasing demand, especially taking advantage of global supply chain shifts, THACO INDUSTRIES has continued to invest in upgrading technology and developing the Thaco Trailers brand to be the leading semi-trailer manufacturer in Việt Nam.

In 2022, Vietnamese multi-industry holding corporation THACO put into operation THACO INDUSTRIES Trailer and Heavy Steel Structures Manufacturing Limited Liability Company (Thaco Trailers) and invested in a new factory with a capacity of 30,000 products per year, with the most modern equipment system in Southeast Asia.

The production process at the factory is completely synchronised and closed through stages of fabrication, welding, painting, assembling, and inspection.

The factory invested in a laser cutting machine system for all mechanical details and semi-trailer frames with high precision.

The welding line is equipped with a fixture system and automatic welding robot system with a reach of up to 2,200mm, ensuring precise welding at all angles, with welds meeting quality and aesthetic standards.

After welding, the chassis frame is cleaned by using an automatic shot blasting machine with quality meeting international standards SA-2.5, then dipped into a 17m-long tank of ED coating.

Next, the chassis frame is applied powder-coating by automatic spray painting robots, making the product surface a glossy finish with high aesthetics.

Semi-trailers are assembled on a fully-automatic monorail line with an AGV component feeding system, controlling the tightening force throughout the process.

The quality of products is strictly controlled at every stage. Before leaving the factory, the products are tested for braking force, overall inspection and actual testing on test tracks with diverse terrain.

Currently, Thaco Trailers manufactures and supplies many types of product configurations, including skeleton semi-trailers, flatbed semi-trailers, box semi-trailers, tipper semi-trailers, specialised semi-trailers and semi-trailer components, to meet customers' various requirements.

The products are highly appreciated by customers for their light weight, high durability, and flexible configuration design, helping to achieve optimal load capacity, strong and stable operation, and saving operating costs.

Semi-trailers under the Thaco Trailers brand are not only a new step in the strategy of expanding the product portfolio, but also a testament to the production capacity and intrinsic value of THACO INDUSTRIES for more than 20 years of establishment and development.

Reaching out to the world market

After investing in product research and development, in 2020, Thaco Trailers exported its first batch of semi-trailers to the US.

Getting positive feedback on product quality, Thaco Trailers constantly enhances quality, diversifies product configurations, penetrates potential markets with large orders to create momentum to expand business in North American countries such as Canada and Mexico.

At the same time, Thaco Trailers continues to produce and supply products suitable for the needs of other markets such as Australia, Japan and South Korea. From 2020 to the present, the company has exported nearly 13,000 semi-trailers to other countries.

To step out into the global playground and conquer large markets with high requirements for technical standards and quality regulations, Thaco Trailers has implemented many synchronous solutions.

The company focuses on exploiting resources in terms of production capacity, technology, industrial management, promoting digitalisation, investing heavily in R&D activities, and cooperating with reputable component suppliers in the world in order to create quality products that meet export standards (DOT, AAR, ANSI, TOFC, F(C)MVSS, SAE, TTMA,...), and have diverse product configurations suitable for the needs and characteristics of each market.

Currently, Thaco Trailers continues to promote market research activities, participate in international exhibitions on semi-trailers, and promote the establishment of a sales company in the US and representative offices in Australia and Europe.

In addition, the company also invests in improving production capacity, R&D, and after-sales service to achieve the goal of increasing the output of skeleton semi-trailers in the North American market; while at the same time, establishing cooperative relationships with new distributors to export semi-trailers components and specialised semi-trailers.

With a solid foundation of production capacity and huge demand from potential markets, Thaco Trailers expects to increase export output, affirming the position of made-in-Việt Nam semi-trailer products in the world market./.
