HÀ NỘI — Hà Nội introduced more than 2,000 “One Commune, One Product” (OCOP) products at a trade fair held in outlying Hoài Đức District during October 7-11.

The event was jointly organised by the capital city’s coordinating office for building new-style rural areas and the People's Committee of Hoài Đức District to introduce OCOP products in connection with the culture of localities in the Red River Delta region.

More than 100 booths introduced products from the capital city, nine provinces in the Red River Delta region and 20 others from across the nation.

Delegates cut the ribbon to open the trade fair.

Speaking at the event, Director of the municipal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Chu Phú Mỹ, who doubles as Chief of Hà Nội's coordinating office for building new-style rural areas, said this is an important event in 2022 held following direction from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Hà Nội People's Committee to support individuals and businesses to meet, exchange and promote OCOP products and other specialties of different regions across the country.

OCOP participants and other organisations and individuals got the chance to exchange information to better apply science and technology, increase added value, develop a sustainable supply chain, and gain access to potential markets.

The OCOP programme of Hà Nội has been implemented for nearly four years with a focus on developing agricultural products, craft villages, industry and handicrafts with high competitiveness in domestic and international markets.

It is also a key programme in developing rural economies and implementing the national target programme to build new-style rural areas.

The trade fair drew over 100 booths showcasing more than 2,000 OCOP products of Hà Nội.

The OCOP programme of Hà Nội has quickly confirmed its position in the market, helping farmers to expand production and increase product value, thus contributing to improving their spiritual and material life.

So far, Hà Nội has recognised 1,649 OCOP products, including four rated with five stars. The capital is taking the lead nationwide in terms of the number of OCOP products and five-star OCOP products.

The OCOP programme was initiated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in 2008, based on Japan’s “One Village, One Product” and Thailand’s “One Tambon, One Product” programmes.

OCOP products are made based on the combination of local resources, traditional culture, and advanced technology, thus promoting product diversification, quality, packaging, and origin traceability.

The programme has provided farmers with the chance to form cooperatives, which in turn have enabled them to create goods with better quality, design and packaging that meet higher standards and match market demand.
