HÀ NỘI — President Trần Đại Quang yesterday had a telephone call with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, congratulating him on his successful reelection.

Quang expressed his belief that Russia under Putin’s leadership will remain stable and develop further, along with the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Việt Nam and Russia. Together, the two countries will actively contribute to peace, stability, co-operation and development in the region and the world.

Quang also expressed his deepest condolences to Putin and Russian citizens for the massive loss of lives and assets in a Sunday fire in the Siberian city of Kemerovo, which killed 64 people, many of whom were children.

President Putin told Quang that Russia always regards Việt Nam as one of its prioritised partners in the Asia Pacific. Russia approves of the proactive role of Việt Nam in the region and commits to continue co-operating with the country to further promote bilateral ties in the coming time, Putin said.

During the call, the two leaders agreed on specific measures to implement previous agreements on various sectors like politics, economy, trade, investment, science and technology, as well as defence and security to deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Việt Nam and Russia.

They also agreed on the importance of promoting political exchanges, especially at the high level, and to start preparation work for the Friendship Year in 2019 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the treaty on basic principles for the bilateral ties. — VNS
