Việt Nam’s reference exchange rate down by 15 đồng

The State Bank of Việt Nam set the daily reference exchange rate for May 30 at VNĐ22,590 per US dollar, down by 15 Việt Nam đồng from the previous day.
 

With the current trading band of +/- 3 per cent, the ceiling rate applied to commercial banks during the day is VNĐ23,267 per US dollar and the floor rate VNĐ21,923 per US dollar. — Photo tapchitaichinh.vn

HÀ NỘI — The State Bank of Việt Nam set the daily reference exchange rate for May 30 at VNĐ22,590 per US dollar, down by 15 Việt Nam đồng from the previous day. 

With the current trading band of +/- three per cent, the ceiling rate applied to commercial banks during the day is VNĐ23,267 per US dollar and the floor rate VNĐ21,923 per US dollar.

The opening hour rates at commercial banks saw strong increases compared to May 29. 

Vietcombank raised both the rates by 25 Việt Nam đồng, listing the buying rate at VNĐ22,810 per US dollar and the selling rate at VNĐ22,880 per US dollar.

BIDV also increased both the rates by 30 Việt Nam đồng to VNĐ22,810 per US dollar (buying) and VNĐ22,880 per US dollar (selling). 

Meanwhile, from May 29, Techcombank offered the buying rate at VNĐ22,800 per US dollar, up by 45 Việt Nam đồng, and the selling rate at VNĐ22,900 per US dollar, up by 55 Việt Nam đồng. 

From early this week, commercial banks continued adjusting the prices of the greenback upwards, while the reference exchange rate saw a rising trend on Monday and Tuesday. 

Việt Nam’s consumer price index (CPI) inched up by 0.55 per cent in May, the highest monthly increase since 2012, according to the General Statistics Office. 

The index marked a 3.86 per cent increase year-on-year and a 1.61 per cent increase from last December. In the first five months of this year, CPI rose by 3.01 per cent. — VNS
