Yên tử Mountain
It was recorded in early documents that Yên Tử, located between the two provinces of Bắc Giang and Quảng Ninh, was among the most sacred sites in the country.
Through the course of time, there were many Zen masters who stayed on the mountain practising an ascetic way of life. In the 13th century, Emperor Trần Nhân Tông abdicated his throne and vowed to follow the ascetic practice of a Buddhist student in Yên Tử. He unified the Đại Việt Buddhist schools and founded the Trúc Lâm Zen Sect. Since then, Yên Tử was regarded as the Buddhist capital of the country.
