Việt Nam reports 55th COVID-related death

Việt Nam confirmed its 55th COVID-19-related fatality on Tuesday afternoon, an 88-year-old woman from Lục Ngạn District in Bắc Giang Province.

BẮC GIANG — Việt Nam confirmed its 55th COVID-19-related fatality on Tuesday afternoon, an 88-year-old woman from Lục Ngạn District in Bắc Giang Province.

She died on Monday, with cause of death registered as severe pneumonia due to SARS-CoV-2, acute respiratory distress, septic shock, multiple organ and heart failure along with hypertension and type 2 diabetes.

She tested positive for the virus on May 16 at the general hospital of Bắc Giang Province and was transferred to Bắc Giang Lung Hospital on May 26 suffering from severe pneumonia due to COVID-19.

After being moved to intensive care, her condition did not improve. She was intubated with mechanical ventilation on June 2.

She also received continuous dialysis, broad-spectrum antibiotics, antifungal drugs and was treated for blood clotting disorder.

She fell into a deep coma on June 7 with severe kidney and liver failure. — VNS
