HÀ NỘI — A newborn baby boy found abandoned in the street on the outskirts of Hà Nội is recovery well in hospital.

The three-day old child was found naked near a manhole close to Mẫu Temple in Sơn Tây Town’s Thanh Mỹ Commune on Monday.

He was found with maggots covering his body and he had been bitten by ants. Local residents said the baby had been left in hot weather.

But medical staff at Saint Paul Hospital in Ba Đình District say since he was admitted, he is responding well to treatment. He is conscious, breathing without a ventilator and can open his eyes.

Although he does have a neonatal infection, conjunctivitis and jaundice, there are no other serious ailments.
