QUẢNG NINH — Traffic police of the northern province Quảng Ninh seized six sand dredgers in the early hours of Wednesday for illegally operating on the Hốt River.

Checks showed that each ship had taken about 10-30cu.m of sand from the river, which is on the border of Quảng Yên Town and Hạ Long City.

Crew members of the ships failed to produce licences to exploit sand.

They also admitted to police they had been operating for a long time.

Inspections along the Hốt River are part of the department’s campaign to ensure traffic safety and social order before, during and after Tết (Lunar New Year). The festival will fall at the end of this month. — VNS
