ĐẮK LẮK — Hospitals in Đắk Lắk Province were treating more than 120 people suffering from food poisoning, said Lê Minh Thông, deputy director of the provincial Food Safety and Hygiene Department.
The patients were reportedly poisoned by bread from a shop in Buôn Ma Thuột City.
On Wednesday, dozens of victims were rushed to Thiện Hạnh General Hospital, Buôn Ma Thuột City Hospital, Tây Nguyên General Hospital and Đắk Lắk General Hospital with symptoms of fever, abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea.
At 4.30pm on Thursday, the patients had increased to 121 with two emergency cases at Tây Nguyên General Hospital, Thông said.
Department officials have collected food samples for examination at the Tây Nguyên Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology.
The bread shop owner has been instructed to shut down until further notice.
The provincial Health Department has set up three teams to visit the patients and take samples for testing.
The hospitals have been asked to provide treatment and co-ordinate with authorities to investigate the cause of the incident. — VNS
