SƠN LA  Police in Sông Mã District, in the northern mountain province of Sơn La, have arrested two suspects involved in a drug-smuggling racket.

The two accused are Sồng A Trắng, 23, and Giàng A Tùng, 20, the police said on Monday.

Police officials said they seized 10 bricks of heroin weighing around 3.5kg, a motorbike and two mobile phones, among other items from the duo.

The two men were arrested after a dramatic chase. They were transporting the drugs on a motorbike when the police gave them chase. The speeding duo crashed into a police team, hopped off the bike, and fled into the surrounding forest. Officials followed and caught up with them after a chase.

The accused claim that they purchased the drugs from an unidentified person near the border area for personal consumption. Further investigations are on.  VNS
