THỪA THIÊN – HUẾ — Police in the central province of Thừa Thiên-Huế have broken up an online soccer gambling ring responsible for place bets of nearly VNĐ200 billion (US$8.9 million).
The ring was led by 29-year-old Hồ Công Nhật Quang, nicknamed Quang Camel, living on Võ Thị Sáu Road in Huế City, according to the provincial police.
Quang and his accomplices were arrested yesterday at noon and properties related to the case were seized.
The case is being investigated further.
Sport betting is illegal under Vietnamese law, but underground betting continues to thrive with an increasing number of cases being busted by the police each year. — VNS
