Thai vessel illegally sells oil to fishing boat

A Thai vessel and a Vietnamese fishing boat were arrested by the Vietnamese coast guard for illegally trading fuel in Việt Nam’s waters.

BÀ RỊA-VŨNG TÀU — A Thai vessel and a Vietnamese fishing boat were arrested by the Vietnamese coast guard for illegally trading fuel in Việt Nam’s waters.

The two vessels were taken to a port in Vũng Tàu City in the southern province of Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu yesterday.

The captains of both ships failed to present legal documents for the fuel they were trading.

The Thai-flagged V. Lucky vessel, with six Thai sailors on board, was caught red-handed selling diesel to the Vietnamese boat on Monday, some 130 nautical miles from Côn Đảo Island, according to the commander of the Maritime Police Zone 3.

The Thai vessel was carrying 200,000 litres of diesel.

Vietnamese boat TG 90377 TS, with four sailors on board, was captained by Lê Thanh Hoàng, 45, from the Mekong Delta province of Tiền Giang.
