ASEAN eyes on resilient and responsive communication

ĐÀ NẴNG — Ministers of information and communications of ASEAN countries will be sharing experience and initiatives at discussions on boosting co-operation in media, broadcast and television; social network, website, internet-formed communication and improved awareness of ASEAN.

Vice minister of information and communications of Việt Nam, Nguyễn Thanh Lâm said at a press conference on the 16th Conference of ASEAN Ministers Responsive for Information and related Meetings (AMRI) in the central city on September 20-23.

Lâm said the conference will be a forum for regional ministers of the information and communications industry to map out a future plan for the sector in dealing with current global challenges and social network invasion.

The conference will also include a forum for ASEAN countries and three dialogue countries – China, Japan and South Korea – to discuss initiatives and deeper co-operation among regional countries and partners in the sector.

It’s also a chance for senior officials working in the sector to submit key agendas to the ministers meeting for approval at the conference.

“Việt Nam has chosen the title - Media: From Information to Knowledge for a Resilient and Responsive ASEAN – as a key agenda for the 16th AMRI,” Lâm said.

“The theme of the conference highlights the important role of communication in the context of digital transformation booming and the 4th industrial revolution. Media and communication will be playing as a driving force in transforming information into human knowledge, and supporting for a resilient and responsive ASEAN,” he noted.

The vice minister also said the conference will host a regional forum in dealing and solutions of fake news and disinformation on the internet, creating an open dialogue among state-owned agencies, media and trans-border technological platforms.

“It will help regional countries build up trust and a safe information space for the ASEAN community, while promoting a sustainable digital transformation process for media and communication agencies in the region.”

A photo exhibition on ASEAN and a virtual film experience space on ASEAN, a showroom of communication and information technology as well as visiting trips will be held at the conference, he said.

A final press conference will review on results and conclusion of the conference and related meetings on September 23, Lâm added.

A regional forum on fake news and disinformation will prelude the conference on September 19. — VNS
