HÀ NỘI — President Nguyễn Xuân Phúc emphasised Hà Giang’s important role in the country’s development while meeting representatives from the province on Wednesday in Hà Nội.

Talking to 39 representatives of nearly 2,000 people who have made achievements in patriotic campaigns and other socio-economic work in Hà Giang Province this year, he said that Hà Giang had a particularly important strategic position.

People in Hà Giang, along with the army and people across the country, have contributed to the nation's history.

President Phúc expressed pleasure to know that the representatives in Hà Giang Province are leading people in patriotic campaigns, making many contributions to economic development and maintaining security and order.

They instructed the people to abide by the Party’s and the State’s guidelines, joined poverty reduction, built new rural areas and helped families with great services to the nation.

They abolished out-of-date customs, preserved and promoted good traditional cultural values, and encouraged students to persevere with their studies.

The President said, although facing many obstacles due to difficult terrain, poor infrastructure and shortages of human resources, Hà Giang Province had been creative and gained many important achievements in socio-economic development, national defence, security and foreign affairs.

It is noteworthy that all communes had concrete roads, nearly half of local schools reached national standards, and all communes met the national health criteria. Health insurance coverage reached 98.5 per cent.

To further promote the achievements and role of the outstanding people, President Phúc proposed Hà Giang Province implement the issued policies, especially promoting the role of reputable people among ethnic groups.

He noted the need to focus on providing information about the Party's and the State’s guidelines, policies and laws, so that the people would actively participate in patriotic campaigns.

As the country always needs contributions from reputable people from ethnic groups, President Phúc believes and wishes that they would promote good traditions and the spirit of national solidarity, while setting good examples for children and the community.

They will guide people in their villages to strive for socio-economic development, and actively participate in maintaining security and order.

They will also create understanding and love in the community, building Vietnamese strength and Vietnamese values ​​for today and the future.

President Phúc suggested Hà Giang Province search for new economic growth models on the basis of promoting its own potential and advantages.

The province should improve the business investment environment, reform administrative procedures, give priority to investment in core infrastructure and focus on digital transformation.

The province also needs to focus on social security and improve people's lives, especially poor households. It should design specific policies that both support poverty reduction and also take care of people's spiritual lives.

He asked the province to strengthen great national unity and pay special attention to spreading and replicating typical examples of people with good services and achievements in the community.

At the meeting, the representatives shared their experiences in building houses for local people with meritorious services and poor people, their efforts to get out of poverty, and supporting people to preserve and promote the cultural values of the nation. — VNS
