ĐÀ NẴNG — Police are investigating the death of a female Korean tourist at a hotel in the central city's Sơn Trà peninsula district.

The director of the Đà Nẵng's tourism department, Trương Thị Hồng Hạnh, confirmed police have yet to reveal any information relating to the cause of death.

In a notice released on Saturday (October 8), the department said a police station in Mân Thái Ward confirmed that a Korean woman (H.K), 37, was found dead in the swimming pool of a beach-front hotel on Võ Nguyên Giáp Street at around 6.30pm on October 5.

A police officer from Mân Thái Ward said an official report on the death would soon be released.

Unofficial sources cited the hotel manager as saying the Korean woman was swimming in the pool on October 5 before screaming and collapsing. He said hotel staff provided first aid but could not save her.

The department asked the hotel managing board to support the victim's family during their stay in Đà Nẵng.

This is the second tourist to die in the city this year. In July, a Canadian-Vietnamese man was found dead after an accident at a waterfall in the mountainous Hoà Bắc Commune while on an adventure tour.

Korean tourists are the second largest foreign tourist arrivals to Đà Nẵng, accounting for 55.4 per cent of total international tourists.

Around one million Korean tourists visited the city in 2020.

While COVID-19 stopped Korean tourists from visiting Đà Nẵng for a time, the central coastal city is still a favourite destination.

Five trips from filmmakers, television (SBS and IHQ), and Korean stars have visited Đà Nẵng to film the beautiful landscape and beach for their programmes since early 2022.

The city's Tourism Promotion Centre and travel firm Klook Vietnam – a world-leading platform for entertainment, tour and ticket booking – have promoted Đà Nẵng through Facebook and Instagram, as well as Klook's website and app, and support travel firms in digital transformation using Klook platform.

Last year, HanaTour company hosted an Instagram photo contest – Đà Nẵng in My Heart – for Koreans living in Việt Nam and Korean residents. — VNS
