HCM CITY — The HCM City People’s Procuracy has asked the municipal People’s Court to abolish the ruling in the VN Pharma case due to “possible signs of failures" in bringing some suspects to court.

The city chief prosecutor Nguyễn Đình Trung said on Friday that the court would have to reinvestigate and retry the case.

Earlier on August 25, former top executive Nguyễn Minh Hùng and an associate of the pharmaceutical company Việt Nam Pharma were sentenced to 12 years in prison for smuggling 9,300 boxes of H-Capita 500mg Caplet, a cancer treatment drug. They were also convicted of counterfeiting seals and documents of the drugs’ origin to deceive the authorities and improperly obtain an official import licence.

According to the procuracy, the verdict was “too light, incomprehensive and not matching the nature and the danger of the crimes.” — VNS
