HÀ NỘI — Developing the Việt Nam-China traditional relationship in a more fruitful, stable and healthier manner is the common responsibility of both sides and also an inevitable and objective requirement in accordance with the basic interests and aspirations of the two countries’ people, said a senior Party official.

Politburo member and permanent member of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee’s Secretariat Trần Quốc Vượng made the remarks at a reception in Hà Nội on Tuesday for a delegation of the Communist Party of China (CPC) led by Director of the CPC Central Committee’s International Liaison Department Song Tao.

Vượng told the guests that amid profound and unpredictable changes around the world and the region, as well as continued reforms in both Việt Nam and China, besides advantages, the two nations have been facing a lot of challenges.

He suggested ministries, sectors and localities of Việt Nam and China step up practical and effective cooperation in all spheres as the two nations are celebrating the 70th founding anniversary of diplomatic ties this year.

Regarding differences, Vượng stressed that, based on the common perceptions of high-ranking leaders of the two Parties and States, the two sides should work together to find satisfactory solutions, properly settle disagreements through peaceful measures, and comply with international law.

Song affirmed that the Party, Government and people of China always attached importance to developing the traditional and friendly neighbourliness with Việt Nam and stood ready to join hands with their Vietnamese counterparts to implement the common perceptions of senior leaders of the two Parties and States and signed documents, thus developing the bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, both intensively and extensively, and bringing practical benefits to the people of the two nations.

He voiced his hope that the two sides would continue deploying exchange activities through Party, State and people channels in 2020, thereby strengthening the firm foundation for relations between the two Parties, States and peoples of China and Việt Nam.

The same day, Chairman of the CPV Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations Hoàng Bình Quân held talks with Song Tao, during which the two sides exchanged views on relations between the two Parties, States and cooperation activities in the past.

They also discussed plans to boost cooperative ties and exchanges between the CPV and CPC, between the CPV Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations and the CPC Central Committee’s International Liaison Department and between public organisations in 2020.

Diplomatic ties celebrated

The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) and the Vietnam-China Friendship Association (VCFA) on Tuesday co-hosted a reception on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic ties (January 18).

In her remarks at the event, VUFO President Nguyễn Phương Nga reviewed the 70-year history and the major achievements of the relationship, which, she said, were attributable to contributions of generations of Vietnamese and Chinese leaders and people.

Therefore, it would be the responsibility of both sides to preserve and promote these achievements, she said.

Nga highlighted the enhancement of cooperation between the two Parties, States and peoples.

The Vietnamese Party, State and peoples always attach importance to developing the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Việt Nam and China, considering this a top priority in Việt Nam’s foreign policy, the official said.

She underlined the role of people-to-people exchange in materialising common perception reached by high-ranking leaders of the two countries.

Chinese Ambassador Xiong Bo emphasised that good relations between Vietnamese and Chinese people were the root and source of strength of the bilateral ties.

The ambassador echoed Nga’s view on closer coordination in organising friendship activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic ties.

The Chinese Embassy in Việt Nam stands ready to strengthen cooperation with the VUFO and the VCFA, contributing to enhancing understanding and friendship between Vietnamese and Chinese people, and promoting the relationship between the two countries in a stable, healthy and sustainable manner, he said. — VNS
