HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam will create favourable conditions to boost the national defence relationship with Cuba on the basis of signed agreement, contributing to promoting the special traditional friendship between the two Parties, States and armies, said Party General Secretary, President Nguyễn Phú Trọng.
He made the statement while receiving Sen Lieut Gen Leopoldo Cintra Frias – Politburo member, member of the State Council and Council of Ministers and Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (MINFAR) of Cuba on Monday.
The Cuban official is leading a high-ranking military delegation of MINFAR on a working visit to Việt Nam from this week at the invitation of General Ngô Xuân Lịch – Politburo member, Vice Secretary of the Central Military Commission and Defence Minister.
Trọng said he believed the army forces of the two countries would always have the trust of Parties and people of the two countries and be always ready to fight for national independence and freedom.
He congratulated the great socio-economic achievements made by Cuba.
The Cuban official briefed his host of results of a working session with relevant ministries and agencies of Việt Nam.
Earlier the same day, General Ngô Xuân Lịch held talks with Sen Lieut Gen Leopoldo Cintra Frias.
During the talks, the two sides informed each other of their countries’ situations and discussed regional and international issues of common concern.
They reviewed recent defence co-operation between Việt Nam and Cuba, especially key co-operation plans for the 2017-19 period, and agreed on bilateral defence co-operation in the time to come.
The Cuban delegation’s visit is a contribution to the practical and effective promotion of bilateral defence ties, thus strengthening the traditional friendship between the two Parties, States, armies and peoples.
The schedule of the Cuban official and his delegation includes working sessions with representatives from the General Department of Defence Industry (GDDI) and the Economic Department under the Vietnamese Ministry of Defence, and visits to GDDI’s Factory Z131 and the Shipbuilding Company 189 as well as a number of units under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. — VNS
