HÀ NỘI — China’s announcement that it had launched a live-fire drill in Việt Nam’s Hoàng Sa (Paracel) Archipelago is a serious violation of Việt Nam’s sovereignty over the archipelago, threatening peace and stability in the region and the East Sea, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lê Thị Thu Hằng said yesterday.
"Việt Nam strongly protests China’s move and demands the country respect Việt Nam’s sovereignty over the Hoàng Sa Archipelago and avoid such actions in order to avoid jeopardising peace and stability in the region and the East Sea," stressed Hằng.
“Việt Nam once again affirms the resolve to safeguard her sovereignty and legitimate rights and interests in the East Sea through peaceful measures in line with international law, including the United Nations Charter and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea,” the spokesperson stated.— VNS
