HÀ NỘI Viet Nam News -— Lawmakers yesterday approved the President’s proposal on the list of Vice Chairperson and members of the Council on National Defence and Security as part of the 13th National Assembly’s last meeting.
Accordingly, 485 NA deputies elected Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc as Vice Chairman of the council.
NA Chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân, Minister of Public Security Tô Lâm and Minister of National Defence Ngô Xuân Lịch were voted into the council’s membership by a majority of deputies.
With an almost 90 per cent of “yes” votes, a resolution ratifying the President’s proposal sailed through the legislature.
On the same day, lawmakers approved a proposal presented by the Chairperson of the National Election Council (NEC) on candidates for the positions of NEC Vice Chairpersons and members.
Winning support of the majority of votes, Deputy Prime Minister Trương Hòa Bình and Vice State President Đặng Thị Ngọc Thịnh were named the Vice Chairpersons of the council.
The NEC membership was assigned to NA Vice Chairman Đỗ Bá Tỵ, Minister of National Defence Ngô Xuân Lịch, Head of the NA Committee for Deputy Affairs Trần Văn Túy, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission Trần Quốc Vượng, Minister of Information and Communications Trương Minh Tuấn, Minister of Public Security Tô Lâm, NA Vice Chairman Phùng Quốc Hiển, Minister of Home Affairs Lê Vĩnh Tân, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Organisation Phạm Minh Chính, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee Lê Quốc Phong, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union Lại Xuân Môn, Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Women’s Union Nguyễn Thị Thu Hà and Secretary of the Party Committee of the Centrally-run Business Bloc Bùi Văn Cường.
A resolution ratifying the NEC Chairperson’s proposal was approved by over 88 per cent of deputies.
Earlier yesterday, NA deputies approved the discharge of several vice chairmen and members of the National Election Council and the Council on National Defence and Security through a secret ballot.
A majority of lawmakers agreed to remove former Prime Minister Nguyễn Tấn Dũng from the position of Vice Chairman of the Council on National Defence and Security, and both former NA Chairman Nguyễn Sinh Hùng and former Defence Minister Phùng Quang Thanh from membership of the council.
The parliament also relieved former Vice President Nguyễn Thị Doan and Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc from their duties as Vice Chairpersons of the National Election Council. Almost all NA deputies agreed to dismiss 12 members from the National Election Council.
The 13th legislature’s 11th and last meeting is scheduled to close today. The working session will be broadcast live on national television and radio. — VNS
