HÀ NỘI — Theoretical issues drawn from reviewing 40 years of Đổi mới (Renewal) must pave and light the way for the Party, the people and the army to overcome all difficulties and challenges and to seize opportunities, and offer a scientific basis for planning development policies.

At the same time, the Party, the army and the people must aspire to promote the will and determination of the entire nation to achieve the country's goal of 100 years under the Party's leadership, and 100 years of founding the Democratic Republic of Việt Nam, now the Socialist Republic of Việt Nam.

President Tô Lâm made his remarks at the third meeting of the Steering Committee for reviewing 40 years of Đổi mới on Wednesday morning at the Presidential Palace in Hà Nội.

Lâm requested the steering committee focus on evaluating the implementation of the plan of reviewing 40 years of Đổi mới, clearly pointing out effective ways that need to be promoted and identify problems and obstacles which need to be fixed.

It should identify tasks that need to be continued as well as mobilising the intelligence of experts, scientists, managers and people from all walks of life throughout the country.

The committee had to focus on refining the review results to contribute to the preparation of documents for the 14th National Party Congress.

On behalf of the steering committee, Nguyễn Xuân Thắng, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, said that members of the committee proactively performed the assigned tasks according to the approved plan. They contributed concrete, practical and valuable opinions to the formulation of the review report as well as on the direction and tasks of the steering committee in the coming time.

The meeting also heard the announcement of the Politburo's decision on strengthening and adding members to the steering committee.

Politburo member and President Tô Lâm now holds the position of head of the steering committee; Politburo member and permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Lương Cường holds the position of standing deputy head of the committee.

The Politburo also decided to add Nguyễn Duy Ngọc, chief of the Party Central Committee Office; and Senior Lieutenant General Trịnh Văn Quyết, chairman of the General Department of Politics of the Việt Nam People's Army, as members of the steering committee.

Concluding the meeting, President Tô Lâm said reviewing theoretical and practical issues surrounding the socialist-oriented renewal over the past 40 years in Việt Nam was an important task to build and develop the country along the socialist path.

These issues would help build a scientific and practical foundation for the Party to plan the right guidelines and policies, ensuring victory for the cause of renovation, construction, development and defence of the country in the new period. — VNS
