HÀ NỘI — Chairman of the National Assembly Vương Đình Huệ held meetings with Shah Alam, President of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), and Rashed Khan Menon, President of the Workers Party of Bangladesh (WPB) and Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Social Welfare (PSCSW) Rashed Khan Menon during the official visit to Bangladesh on Friday.

In the meeting with President of the CPB Shah Alam, NA Chairman Huệ provided an overview of recent developments in Việt Nam and the major policies and directions in the coming period.

Highlighting the importance of the strong and friendly traditional relations between the Communist Party of Việt Nam and the CPB, Huệ expressed his hope that the CPB would successfully achieve its goals and continue to play a pioneering role in the communist and socialist movements in Bangladesh, contributing to the construction of a peaceful, democratic, developed, and prosperous Bangladesh.

President Shah Alam expressed his desire for Việt Nam to become a development partner of Bangladesh in the near future.

During the meeting, both leaders agreed on the need to enhance friendly cooperation in the future, continuing to promote relations between the two parties and two countries, and furthering investment and trade between the two nations.

They also affirmed their shared viewpoints, supporting each other's positions and stances in international and multilateral forums, with a particular emphasis on the spirit of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) of 1982, ensuring security, safety, and freedom of navigation in the East Sea (internationally known as the South China Sea), and resolving disputes through peaceful means.

During the meeting with President of the WPB and Chairman of the PSCSW Rashed Khan Menon and the party members, NA Chairman Huệ affirmed that Việt Nam's Party and State highly valued and aimed to strengthen their traditional friendly relations with Bangladesh across all channels and domains.

He expressed the hope for increased exchange of experience, theories and practical knowledge on party building and national development in the current context between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the WPB. He also agreed on the importance of strengthening cooperation and exchange programmes between the youth of both countries, as they represented the future of the bilateral relationship.

President Rashed Khan Menon emphasised that the Việt Nam-Bangladesh relationship has thrived in all areas and recent years have seen positive outcomes in trade and investment.

With substantial untapped potential and highly complementary economies, he said he believed that both sides could significantly strengthen their cooperation for the mutual benefit of their countries and peoples.

He also expressed the desire for enhanced people-to-people exchanges, particularly among youth and women.

Regarding economic cooperation, the NA Chairman agreed this area needed to be boosted in the near future. He revealed that on Friday, in Dhaka, both countries would hold a policy and legal forum on trade and investment, with the participation of around 150 businesses, investors, and leaders from relevant ministries and sectors.

On this occasion, NA Chairman Huệ extended an invitation to President Rashed Khan Menon to visit Việt Nam in the near future. — VNS
