Việt Nam and China boost cooperation in legislative work

The two sides agreed to continue to promote the exchange of experiences in legislative work, and urged the Governments of the two countries to implement the common perceptions and agreements between senior leaders.

BEIJING — Việt Nam and China have agreed to continue to boost cooperation in legislation work.

The statement was made as Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng met with the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China Li Zhanshu on Tuesday during the former’s official visit to China.

Li said he highly appreciated the significance of the official visit, firmly believing that the visit will help guide the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two parties and that the two countries will continue to develop to new heights.

The Chinese leader said he believed that the Communist Party of Việt Nam, headed by the Party chief Trọng, would lead the country to fulfil more great achievements.

He emphasised that the development of relations between the two parties and countries was of greater significance.

He expressed his delight at the positive developments in all fields between the two countries in recent years, including the effective cooperation between the National People’s Congress of China and Việt Nam’s National Assembly.

He added that economic, trade and investment cooperation had grown rapidly, bringing practical benefits to the people of the two countries. Exchanges and cooperation between ministries, agencies and localities of the two countries were increasing and effective. People-to-people exchanges, including the young generation, continue to be promoted in various forms, creating a good social foundation for healthy and stable development relations.

Trọng emphasised that Việt Nam and China are two close neighbours with a long tradition of friendship and similar political systems, and are building socialism appropriate to the specific situation of each country.

He said the two parties and countries and their people had given each other valuable support and assistance in the struggle for national independence in the past and the cause of socialism building today.

He said Việt Nam attached great importance to practical and effective cooperation between the two legislative bodies, especially when both countries were promoting the construction of a socialist rule-of-law State.

They also agreed to maintain and promote the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially at a high level; exchanges between delegates, professional committees, friendship parliamentarian groups, and coordination at regional and international multilateral parliamentary forums. — VNS
