From 7pm to 9pm Thursday night, Tranquil will host the 5th episode of its Xóa series a  poetry reading series to shape fresh experiences of language--entitled Musicality of Poetry.

Poetry inherently involves the construction of sounds. It’s about the beat, the breath, the rhythm, the dissonants and the consonants. Xoá #5 aims to fetch the genesis of poetry by disassociating sound and meaning and exploring the musicality in language(s).

The event, which will take place at Tranquil’s 5 Nguyễn Quang Bích Street location, will focus on “Sound Poetry”. A poetry reading workshop hosted by Maryan Captan will also be included.

Captan is an Egyptian-American poet who has been involved in Philadelphia’s art and literary community since 2008. She is a writer, performer and educator, who has taught workshops in creative writing, performance, and creative placemaking in all over America. She serves as Art Director at the APIARY Magazine, host of The Youthquake Open Mic, and teaches experimental and experiential writing classes at The Head & The Hand Press. — VNS
