Best literary works, authors of 2022 celebrated by Việt Nam Writers Association

The winning works include the novel Bửu Sơn Kỳ Hương, poetry collections Ngàn Bài Thơ Khác (Thousands of Poems) and Bóng Của Ý Nghĩa (Shadows of My Mind); translated work The Knights of the Cross and children's book Thung Lũng Đồng Vang (Đồng Vang Valley).

HÀ NỘI — The Việt Nam Writers Association has honoured the best works and authors of 2022 at an awards ceremony at its headquarters in Hà Nội.

The winning works include the novel Bửu Sơn Kỳ Hương, poetry collections Ngàn Bài Thơ Khác (Thousands of Poems) and Bóng Của Ý Nghĩa (Shadows of My Mind); translated work The Knights of the Cross and children's book Thung Lũng Đồng Vang (Đồng Vang Valley).

The novel Bửu Sơn Kỳ Hương is set in the southern region between the 19th and the 20th centuries and highlights typical characteristics of the southern culture and people. It was written by Lý Lan. 

Lan has had a prolific career with poems, short stories, essays, novels and translated works. She translated Harry Potter into Vietnamese.

She won the association award in the children's book category for Ngôi Nhà Trong Cỏ (Home in Grass) in 1984 and the HCM Writers Association award in the poetry category for Là Mình (Self) in 2005.

Trần Lê Khánh and Nguyễn Bảo Chân won awards for their poetry collections, and Nguyễn Hữu Dũng took the translation award. Writer Trung Sỹ won in the children's category. 

Hà Nội-based Nguyễn Bích Lan and Nguyễn Thị Kim Hoa from the southern province of Ninh Thuận received the Impressive Female Writer Award 2022. They both suffered from illnesses growing up but overcame their adversities to contribute to society. 

Lan translated 52 books, including New York Times bestseller Educated autobiography by Tara Westover. The association awarded her co-translated work of Nobel Prize-winning Chernobyl Prayer by Belarusian Svetlana Alexievich in the translation category in 2015.

Hoa has published 14 books and was voted by Forbes Vietnam as one of the 20 inspirational Vietnamese women in 2021. — VNS
