HUẾ — An art exhibition showcasing the charming beauty of Phước Tích ancient village in Huế has opened at the Điềm Phùng Thị Art Centre in the former imperial capital city.
The exhibition displays 38 artworks by lecturers and students of the College of Fine Arts and the College of Science, both under Huế University. Paintings created by school students of Phong Điền District, home to Phước Tích Village, also are on display.

All the paintings are the result of field trips to the village in October.
Established in 1470 under the reign of Emperor Lê Thánh Tông, the village is located in Phong Hòa Commune, about 40km north of central Huế, and is embraced by the poetic Ô Lâu River. With the preservation of numerous ancient Huế-style wooden houses, plus its rural picturesque landscape, the village was granted the National Heritage title in 2009.
Director of the Huế Fine Arts Museum Đinh Thị Hoài Trai said that the exhibition present a diversity of materials, from acrylic, crayon on paper, giấy dó (poonah), water colour, pencil, and photography.
“The artworks all depict the beauty of the ancient village from different angles – it’s a small garden, a pottery kiln, the hundred-year-old wooden houses, and its river wharf,” she said.

The exhibition helps visitors learn more about the cultural and historical values of Phước Tích village, thereby promoting the value of Huế cultural heritage.
“It will also help to raise the awareness of heritage preservation,” Trai added.
Alongside the art exhibition, another ongoing exhibition has offered visitors a chance to learn about traditional festivals in Huế.
Organised by the Huế City’s Centre of Culture, Information and Sports, the exhibition Traditional Festivals in Thừa Thiên - Huế aims to publicize the unique features of local festivals, and thus contribute to the preservation and promotion of those festivals in people’s lives and tourism development.
