AN GIANG — Enterprises under the southern province of An Giang's market stabilisation programme have spent a total of VNĐ2.1 trillion (US$90.6 million) to prepare goods for Tết (Lunar New Year) festival this year, 9 per cent higher than last year, according to An Giang Department of Industry and Trade.

Phan Lợi, deputy director of the An Giang Department of Industry and Trade, said the department had called upon local enterprises to join the provincial market stabilisation programme, supplying essential goods with stable prices for people during the Tết holiday this year.

So far, this programme has attracted 24 businesses, opening more than 1,600 points of sale for price-stabilised products including food, foodstuff and electronics products.

Lợi said African swine fever had caused a reduction of pork supply and the lack of pork would continue until Tết. Therefore, the department had urged enterprises to store enough pork to meet local demand.

The province would also cooperate with the Department of Finance to monitor the local market and prices of essential commodities such as rice, pork, sugar, animal feed, fertiliser, petrol and gas. — VNS
