HÀ NỘI – The number of international tourists visiting Việt Nam reached nearly 1.2 million in February, increasing 19.1 per cent from the previous month and 42.2 per cent year-on-year.
After surpassing the milestone of one million foreign visitors per month in January, the number of foreign visitors continued to increase this month.
The country welcomed 2.2 million international visitors in the first two months of this year, up 33 per cent from the same period last year, reported the General Statistics Office.
In 2016, Việt Nam’s tourism sector welcomed a record 10 million foreign tourists--up 25 per cent year-on-year--and served 62 million domestic visitors.
The sector expects to receive 11.5 million foreign visitors and 66 million domestic ones this year, generating VNĐ460 trillion (US$20.3 billion).
The sector also aims to receive 17-20 million international tourists annually and serve 82 million domestic visitors by 2020, contributing 10 per cent to gross domestic product. Tourism revenue is expected to reach $35 billion. — VNS
